Tom Winter plays and teaches violin, electric violin, and viola for orchestras and churches in the St. Louis area.

Tom began studying violin at the age of six, receiving professional instruction from Joseph Kaminsky for two years. He was also a member of Kaminsky's studio, The Kirkwood Academy of Music, where he performed in public venues such as Walt Disney World and Busch Stadium. In high school, Tom earned the principal second violin chair for his Missouri All-State Orchestra audition in 2008.

Aside from being a soloist, Tom is currently active in several local ensembles:
  • He plays with the Landolfi Quartet
  • He plays principal viola for the University City Symphony Orchestra
  • He plays principal second violinist for the Alton Symphony Orchestra. 
  • He plays violin in the St. Louis Philharmonic Orchestra, the nation’s oldest orchestra of its kind, founded 1860.
  • Tom has also performed for the St. Louis Civic Orchestra, the Peoria Symphony, the Illinois Symphony Orchestra, The Edwardsville Community Symphony and occasionally as an electric violin soloist.

Tom graduated from Lindenwood University with a Bachelor of Arts in Music, Summa Cum Laude. Tom accumulated numerous musical experiences while attending university. As concertmaster, he led the Lindenwood University Symphonic Orchestra for his entire college career. He also conducted this orchestra in Spring 2014. Additionally, Tom played in the Lindenwood String Ensemble, Lindenwood Jazz Combo, and the Lindenwood String Quartet for several semesters.

Another aspect of Tom's music education includes composition and Arranging. Tom is fluent with the music notation software Sibelius, and has composed several original jazz compositions. He also writes new quartet arrangements on-demand of popular artists, including Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran and Lady Gaga. These arrangements can be purchased by request, or on his Sheet Music Plus account page.

He currently plays in the Landolfi Quartet and is an active member of the American Federation of Musicians Local 2-197. 

During his college education he worked with the Keough String Quartet for several years. He also played in the Matt McCallie Orchestra as a quartet and band member.

Tom plays a 1927 German violin handmade by Heinrich T. Heberlein Jr., used with his great grandfather’s lightweight Ludwig Bausch Leipzig bow.

His electric violin is a dark blue Yamaha SV-200 used in conjunction with a Boss ME-70 multi-effects processor.
His studio equipment includes a Focusrite 2i2 USB audio interface, Ableton 9 Push and Suite, M-Audio Oxygen 49 keyboard, and an MXL 770 Mic.
